The footnote reading from Donna Haraway's book "Staying with the Trouble. Making Kin in the Chthulucene", translated into German by Karin Harrasser, will be embedded in a report on translation problems, pleasures, and strategies with a book that makes the gesture of transmission a method.
It doesn’t only switch between different fields of knowledge and genres, but also puts focus on the question of the reality content of metaphors. Translating thus becomes something true to its Latin source, translatio—carrying across or crossing over—including the risk of shipwrecking.

The lecture will be held in German.

Karin Harrasser is Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Art and Design Linz and Vice Rector for Research there. Habilitation at the Humboldt University in Berlin on ”Prostheses. Figures of Wounded Modernity”. In addition to her academic activities, she has been involved in various art and curatorial projects, e.g. at Kampnagel Hamburg, Tanzquartier Wien or with MAPA Teatro and the Colombian Truth Commission in Bogotá. Together with Elisabeth Timm, she is editor-in-chief of Zeitschrift für Kulturwissenschaften. Her research currently focuses on asymmetrical cultural transfers between Europe and South America and the relationship between globalization and contemporary history.
